ERTMS at DB Cargo UK

We are leading the transformation of rail freight for ETCS in the UK.

The European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is a state-of-the-art digital train control system that will replace the UK's 200-year-old signalling system. ERTMS offers significant capacity and performance benefits, as well as further enhancing safety beyond the capability of older systems - making it the train control system of choice for countries worldwide. Find out more about ERTMS by watching the videos below.

DB Cargo UK has a key role in the UK's adoption of ERTMS and it will take the entire industry to come together with the support of the East Coast Digital Programme to make it happen. Lots of industries are reaping the benefits of going digital, now it's rail's turn.

First-in-Class 66039

A first-in-class fitment is no easy feat! It involves retrofitting brand-new ETCS equipment to a 40 year old locomotive for the very first time. Once designed, fitted, tested and approved, this will become the blueprint for all ETCS fitments on Class 66 and Class 67 locomotives in the UK. It’s a huge undertaking and we’re proud to be at the forefront of ETCS freight fitment. Read our first-in-class news below.

First-in-Class 67002

We're also the UK's lead freight operating company for the Class 67.
